The main discovered lysergamides came from a fungus named ergot that are available on rye together with other grains. This fungus incorporates both lysergic acid as well as a precursor of LSD, ergotamine. Ingestion of grains containing ergot led into the ailment termed “ergotism”, which wreaked havo
